DESCRIPTION
The patch identified in this Engineering Advisory fixes a problem that causes an "invalid link address" kernel panic in the Alteon Gigabit Ethernet (alt) driver.

Stack traces for the problem vary, but the panic is always "invalid link address" and the stack trace always contains "alt_recv_complete()."


Target Audience: Customers who use versions of the Alteon driver earlier than V2.0.22.
 
SCOPE

Versions of the Alteon driver earlier than V2.0.22 are affected. HP Tru64 UNIX product versions with these driver versions are the following:
  • HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-2/PK4
  • HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-1/PK3
  • HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1A PK6
  • HP Tru64 UNIX 4.0G PK4
  • HP Tru64 UNIX 4.0F PK8
 
RESOLUTION

Until corrections are available in a mainstream version, HP is releasing the following early release patch (ERP) kits publicly for use by any customer.

The ERP kits use dupatch to install and will not install over any installed customer-specific patches (CSPs) that have file intersections with the ERPs. Contact your service provider for assistance if the installation of the ERPs is blocked by any of your installed CSPs.

The fixes contained in the ERP kits are scheduled to be available in the following mainstream version:

HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-3/PK5

Early Release Patches


The following ERP kits are applicable to any system running HP Tru64 UNIX and HP TruCluster Server software. The ERPs are designed for clustered and non-clustered systems.

The ERPs deliver the following file:

   /sys/BINARY/alt.mod

The distributed Alteon driver revision is V2.0.22.
